The chalet was a fixer-upper, starting with the a/c

The wonderful thing about being retired is finally having free time for personal projects. I took an early retirement, because I wanted to be able to care about my golden years and not just rest in a retirement lake beach house or assisted living facility. My lovely husbandy Helen and I found a quaint, rustic log chalet just outside of town. It was far from perfect, however the location was perfect. The chalet overlooks a small lake, so that both of us can watch the sunrise over the water every morning. Both of us decided to fix it up ourselves, starting with the cooling system. Actually the cooling system didn’t need to be fixed, because the chalet didn’t have 1 at all! When the chalet was first built, people in this section didn’t have air conditioners. In fact, electricity wasn’t added to the chalet until many years later. The heating system consists of a central fireplace, along with a small wood burning stove in the kitchen. This means the chalet has no HVAC duct, and it is impossible for us to get a central HVAC system. The easyst course of action was to buy a small electric air conditioner that both of us could plug into the wall. This is the cooling equivalent of a space heater, and although it isn’t very powerful, this chalet isn’t very big… Helen needs the a/c more than I do, so I let his option out which 1 both of us would buy… Now that the heating and cooling systems are taken care of, both of us can rest back, relax, and care about our golden years.
