My power company provided energy saving tips

Last month, I saw one of my highest utility bills and my power company emailed me to provide some energy saving tips.

I knew my bill would be high because I was using my central air conditioner more than usual.

And the hot temperature outside was the main reason for this. At one point, it felt like my A/C could not keep up with the heat, so it stayed running for most of the day to keep the house comfortable. Well, I guess my power company saw the hike and wanted to help. They gave me tips that included getting my air conditioner serviced regularly. I believe this is a great tip because when your central air conditioner is serviced often, major problems can be detected and fixed early. Another great tip that the power company provided was to cook outside using grills instead of the oven. My dad actually does this all the time. Most of the meals that he cooks are done on his grill. I don’t own a grill, but what I have been doing is cooking earlier in the day so the house can cool down faster. One tip that I found to be helpful was to fix any air leaks in the house. Air leaks can cause an HVAC system to lose efficiency. Lastly, the company also recommended using ceiling fans. According to the Department of Energy, you can raise the temperature on the thermostat by 3 to 4 degrees when you have a ceiling fan installed. And none of your comfort will be at risk. I am grateful that my power company has provided me with easy ways to save on my energy bill.
