My dad is considering having radiant heated floors installed in his house

To rip out the central heating system and completely redo the flooring to install the radiant floors may cost close to triple the amount of what it would be if it was installed in a new home.

My dad is always looking to make changes in his life. Last year he decided he wanted to learn how to sail boats, so he began an apprenticeship at our local marina. Then he decided he wanted to learn how to roller skate, so he started taking lessons. Now he is committed to learning more about his home air conditioning and heating systems. This has led to a myriad of plans and renovations on his current heating system. He’s always had a central heater, which I think has been just okay. I’m not a huge fan of feeling a huge gust of heat if you are standing in the direction of an AC vent. I also have awful allergies, and I don’t believe the central HVAC helps at all. He started learning about radiant heated floors, and I think he’s actually considering having them installed. I don’t know if it’s the best decision because it seems like it’s more cost efficient to install heated floors in a brand new house. To rip out the central heating system and completely redo the flooring to install the radiant floors may cost close to triple the amount of what it would be if it was installed in a new home. My dad is very adamant about installing the radiant floors now, but I told him he should wait until he moves into his new house next year. I guess the radiant floors would increase the value of the property before he installs it. Maybe when I get to that point I will understand a bit more.
