Mom & dad consistently quarreled over the thermostat
Mom & dad have been married for 42 years, this is longer than most marriages I know.
I asked them one day what is the secret to their lasting marriage.
Mom & dad explained that they never put off fights. If there is something that’s not to your liking, then you address it there & then. This will ensure that they never go to bed with a heavy heart, or not speaking to each other the next morning. Truly, I know this has worked great for them, because they do have some epic fights. These aren’t those emotionally abusive & damaging fights, but healthy fights that help them solve concerns. If they fail to see eye to eye, then they tend to find a compromise that works for both of them! Recently, I witnessed one of their epic fights. This was over thermostat settings which my dad complained mom was hogging. Mom has been ill, so in summer, she still wants the beachside house to be warm! Given how tepid it is outside, the heat can become quite unbearable in the beach house, dad tried understanding why mom chose to leave the beach house hot in June when she was feeling ill. But, by November, he wanted some chill in the beach house & would change the thermostat settings. My Mom & dad consistently quarrel about the thermostat settings, but this time it got rather epic. So, in order for them to live in harmony, I had them install Heating & Air Conditioning zones. That way, their bedroom would be nice & hot for mom, & the rest of the beachside house cool for dad. This was the best compromise since mom loves spending time in the bedroom while knitting her merchandise.
