HVAC tech tried to pull a fast one

I swear, everyone is trying me lately.

I have had so many people try to scam me out of money on craigslist, on the street, and now in my own home.

Luckily for me, I was too knowledgeable to fall for their trickery. The scenario all played out last week, when I had my air conditioner inspected by a professional HVAC technician. The cooling system had been faltering for a few months already, and at that point it was barely producing any cool air. I would regularly hold my hand out in front of the air vents, and could only feel lukewarm air passing by. I knew that the system should still be in operation for another 5 years or so, but I had no clue what was going wrong with my air condition so I called an expert. I was less than impressed with this so-called ventilation expert when he arrived. He was dirty, late for the appointment, and wreaked of stale cigarette smoke. He spent maybe 5 minutes looking at my air conditioner unit, during which time he was largely playing on his cell phone. After that brief inspection, he tried to come in and tell me that the whole AC unit was on its last leg. He said it would break down once and for all any day now, and there was no way to predict exactly when the whole cooling system would go down. He told me the repair would be too expensive, and quoted me for a brand new, high end cooling system instead. I knew he was full of shit. I sent him away, and called another HVAC company immediately… but not before calling his employer and lodging an official complaint.
