A broken air conditioning system

Summer is always a busy season for every cooling expert.

  • Without preseason maintenance, most families and some businesses find themselves making frantic calls to have their air conditioning system checked and repaired before they sweat to death.

There were some memorable moments at the local Bed and Breakfast facility. One was when the owner called me in a panic early one morning after his customers threatened to cancel their booking after one hot night when they discovered the a/c was not working. I assured the owner, Jones, as we call him, that I would be there in no time. As an HVAC tech with ten years in the cooling industry, I know that customers can cancel a business for failing to provide comfort. I hurried to the BnB to inspect the unit’s air conditioning filter and other parts. A conversation with Jones revealed that the air conditioning installation was five years old, with routine maintenance from an HVAC professional. I diagnosed the unit and discovered a malfunction with the blower motor from an electrical fault. In addition, I noticed that the cooling equipment installed has already been outdated, and the BnB could benefit from an upgrade. Jones was open to an upgrade, especially after I mentioned that the best option for cooling technology would come with a programmable thermostat. I let Jones make a call to a new contractor who would handle the electrical issues while I called our office for a supply of the recent heat and AC products we would need for the upgrade. By the end of the day, we got new clients from the BnB neighborhood, where Jones shared how swift his HVAC tech was in solving the a/c issue and the new HVAC the facility would be getting. If anyone is running a business similar to the BnB, I recommend ensuring the facility gets quality HVAC installed in addition to regular maintenance checks.
