Trying to save money, HVAC maintenance

I am pretty much always looking for ways to save money.

It really becomes an addiction at a certain point, when you see your bank account increasing after making relatively minor life changes.

Nothing is more satisfying to me than the steady climb of my savings account, and I’m keeping my eyes open every day for new ideas to promote this goal. That’s why I’m sort of on the fence about HVAC maintenance. See, I clearly understand how important it is to take excellent care of your AC unit and furnace. There’s no doubt that having a professional HVAC technician visit your heating and cooling equipment several times a year is the most foolproof plan for keeping your indoor air handling machinery in tiptop shape. Not only will the heating and cooling system directly benefit from having professional diagnostics run, as well as a detailed cleaning of all the internal temperature control components, but your energy bills will be greatly affected as well. The HVAC company suggests that routine heating and cooling service will reduce your energy bills by at least 20% over the lifespan of your temperature control equipment, and I trust this figure. My question is, how does this amount of money compare to the cost of having a routine HVAC service contract for ten years? Am I really saving money by paying for professional air temperature service? Is there a way to reap the benefits of regular HVAC diagnostics without the service calls? I’m about to find out, I have my first date with a local HVAC technician tonight.
