I”ve noticed that over the last decade or so, our culture seems more & more prone to rejecting knowledge. And I find this to be honestly quite puzzling. When I was growing up, the experts were experts because they had devoted their lives to their passions. I listened to the experts as they were far more educated on their areas of knowledge than I was. Now, there are a lot of people standing in the air conditioner at up-to-date home thinking they guess more than the experts because they have access to the internet. If it wasn’t so potentially awful, I’d absolutely find all of this quite humorous. However, seeing how things went recently with the pandemic, I’m not to ecstatic with this rejection of experts. So much of this trend is a result of the default conspiracy atmosphere that pervades our culture. I mean I have a neighbor who is convinced that Heating & A/C maintenance is a scam. This guy is not taking care of honestly costly Heating & A/C equipment because of something he study online. He even tried to convince myself and others that I was wasting our time with the Heating & A/C professionals. This guy wanted myself and others to go with the handy guy he used when the heating & cooling wasn’t working right. I kindly explained that our Heating & A/C equipment had never had a problem so I didn’t need it fixed. And it never has broken down because the two of us make sure the Heating & A/C equipment gets Heating & A/C repair from credentialed, licensed Heating & A/C professionals. And still, our neighbor told myself and others that I was being a chump. We’ll see who the chump is when his Heating & A/C equipment takes a dirt nap after little more than a decade of heating & cooling his house.
