The faulty wiring nearly caused a fire in the basement

I wanted to save some cash after I bought a house, so I tried to handle as several of the repairs as I could.

I ripped up all of the aged carpet and flooring and replaced the cement on our own.

I resurfaced the countertops in the dining room and replaced all of the appliances. I updated the lavatory with a modern toilet, vanity, and shower. I also made some changes to the heating idea in the house. I thought it might be nice to have an electric fireplace downstairs in the rec room. I bought the electric fireplace from the hardware store. There were no electrical outlets anywhere in the basement, so I rewired all of the electricity. I ran electricity to different outlets on the south and west side of the room. I sited the electric fireplace in the perfect spot and made a very cozy spot for myself and others to relax and watch TV, then one morning in the middle of January, I fell asleep while seeing a game. I woke up because there was a strange smell in the room. When I opened our eyes, I realized that that strange smell was smoke. The smoke was coming from the electric fireplace. I got up and turned off the fireplace. I ran upstairs to grab a fire extinguisher. I keep a fire extinguisher in the dining room, lavatory, and outside in the garage. I did not see any sparks, but I kept the fire extinguisher in the basement for a while. I had to rewire all of the electricity after I found the reason for the sparks and smoke.
