The church that was never completed is now a boarding house with rooms

Melissa found a place to stay in what used to be a church. Actually, it was going to be a place of worship, but it was never completed, so they never held any services inside the space. For quite some time, there was a local congregation that put a heavy investment into building this big site. But, the investment ran out, the congregation moved onto other churches, and the structure just sat here for a while. Later a local lady bought it at auction, did the walls and floors, and started renting out rooms in a boarding house setting. The space now has working plumbing and electricity, but there is a “bring your own air conditioning” policy because this structure has no temperature control in it. Construction stopped before an Heating & Air Conditioning company could even get started, so there is no air duct in it. The carpenters built in the space for HVAC ducts and air vents, but that step never took effect, so the space can’t handle temperature control. Thankfully in the age of Heating & Air Conditioning technology, Melissa doesn’t need a central system, because portable systems aren’t expensive and are widely available. Most Walmarts or Targets will have a portable air conditioning for two or three hundred dollars. These little machines won’t cool off the whole property, but they can cool off a room suddenly. Melissa isn’t sure how long she will live in this place, but it has character, and now that she has air conditioning, she is starting to care about it. When she checks out, Melissa plans to give her little air conditioning to one of the other residents that can’t afford to get it.
