Hot water heater bit the dust

Yesterday around lunchtime the power went out while I was working online, and I thought that our whole building lost power and it would be on again soon.

But after a few hours I asked my neighbors if they had power and they all did, so it was just our flat that had no power.

Finally, after a few hours of investigation I figured it out and it was the hot water heater that was the problem. There must be some kind of short circuit with it and now we have no hot water, which is fine with me because I can take cold showers but my roommate isn’t happy about it. We will get an HVAC expert to come check out the heater to see what needs to be done. I guess we will have no hot water for a few days, but we will make it through this little problem. We will probably get a tankless propane boiler next and hopefully that will save us money with the water heating in the flat. I will ask my neighbor if we could use their shower for a couple of days while we wait to get the unit fixed. My neighbor works at the local business and actually sells hot water heaters and smart thermostats, so maybe we can get a good deal on one of them from him. It is good to have friends in the industry because you never know when something is going to break in the house. I’ll buy a HEPA filter from him while I am at the store too, why not.
