He was talking about heat exchangers and heat pumps.

I had called the HVAC company last week, and I wanted to ask questions about the furnace.

  • He was supposed to be doing work on the air conditioning unit, but we also had questions.

I had noticed some odd things happening, and I was worried. I knew we may need a new furnace, but what he was talking about was not putting me at ease. He first started talking about heat exchangers, and then he switched to heat pumps. I asked him what the heat pump had to do with the heat exchanger. I had heard that heat exchangers could cause some major problems, but I hadn’t heard about there being heat pumps in the furnace. I wasn’t just curious, but I was confused. I asked him if he would please explain what he was talking about. He told me he thought we needed a new furnace before winter began. We didn’t need it right now, because winter was over, but we had to buy a new furnace soon. He then told us the air conditioning unit was in good shape. He changed the air filter and cleaned the condensate drain. He also topped off the coolant. He repeated that the air conditioning unit was in good shape, and it should last for many years, as long as we continue with the service. When he left, I looked at my husband and asked if he understood what he was talking about. He said we needed a new furnace, but the air conditioning unit was okay. I laughed and said nothing more.
