Dog Grooming Studio Needs Furnace in Winter

I run a dog grooming studio, and winter is one of our busiest seasons.

With dogs running around in the slushy, dirty snow, they get filthy more quickly than you would imagine! The studio is always buzzing during the snowy months, as people want to keep their pets clean for winter holiday visitors and Christmas card photos.

But, it’s important for us to keep the furnace running while we’re grooming the dogs. Just like humans, dogs are sensitive to temperature changes, and being wet and cold could be hazardous to their health. Even though the other groomers and I are hot and sweaty while we’re doing the grooming, it’s important that the dogs stay at a comfortable temperature while we’re washing them. We keep the thermostat set at about 73 while we’re grooming, and we turn it up and down as needed. We also make sure to have the furnace serviced before the cold weather hits so we don’t have any mishaps on a snowy day. Luckily, the studio has used the same HVAC company for years, and they always send out a competent and speedy technician to examine our furnace and heating equipment. Last year, we had a few more floor vents added to the grooming space to keep the dogs from shivering in the winter. It was a great idea! There are fewer cold spots in the room, and it actually helps our system run more efficiently; since the heat is being spread more evenly, we can run the furnace at a lower temperature. Having a working and efficient heating system for wintertime grooming is one of the most important elements of my business!
