Saying goodbye to the old HVAC unit

I hate to admit to the fact that I get attached to inanimate objects, but I do it seems. The fact that we are replacing the HVAC unit has really gripped me a bit when it comes to my emotions. For sure, I realize the HVAC unit is in fact a machine. The same sort of thing tends to happen with me when it comes to cars as well. When I buy a car, I drive it until it stops running. In all that time, a sort of bond forms even though it’s all on my side. The HVAC equipment that we put in when we bought the house has been so great. I completely forgot about its age. How it didn’t register that the HVAC unit had been around for 25 years is still beyond me. But it just kept delivering quality heating and air every single day since the first day we turned it on. It sure didn’t hurt that it always got the HVAC maintenance that it needed. We always had the heating maintenance in the fall which was then followed by an air conditioning tune up in the spring. The heating and cooling equipment just kept running with no breakdown or pause anywhere in over a quarter of a century. So when the HVAC technician told me that the HVAC unit was about to die I was genuinely emotional. Nothing lasts forever. It’s the end of this HVAC unit but the beginning of a new era for residential HVAC in our house. And I have to say, I really love all the new HVAC technology that goes with our new HVAC unit. However, I did tip my cap as the old HVAC unit ended up in the back of a truck going down my driveway.
