Is it ok to buy a scratch and dent HVAC unit?

My brother is a construction worker and has been doing this for about 10 years now.

It’s great to have someone working in construction because if I need to perform any improvements on my home, he knows a guy.

When I needed the landscaping done outside, he knew a guy. When I needed to install new countertops for my kitchen, he knew a guy. When I needed to renovate my bathroom, he also knew a guy for that too. If I need my roof done, I am certain that he knows someone that could perform that work. So, yes, I benefit from my brother being in the construction business. He benefits as well because he comes in contact with so many different contractors and companies on the job. A few months ago, he needed a new HVAC unit for his home. I thought he would’ve gone to one of the major HVAC providers in town to get a new A/C, but instead he went to a scratch and dent company and was able to get a working unit for way less than if he had purchased a new one. Some people believe these scratch and dent HVAC units are broken, and of course, there should be concern because who wants to buy anything with a dent in it. It means that the unit fell and could have had something loosen inside. But my brother hasn’t had an issue with his HVAC unit so far. He said he received it with a warranty, so if anything goes wrong the company will rectify the problem. Plus, the company is his A/C guy, so I assume if I ever need a new HVAC unit, that will be the guy that I will use.
