Thankful for air conditioner in hotel room

Last winter, I decided to take my family on vacation over the holidays. I chose a tropical location to get away from the snow and sub zero temperatures we’re accustomed to. I wanted to book accommodations as close to the ocean as possible. I knew my family would enjoy soaking up the sun, lying on the white sand beach and playing in the ocean waves. The hotels right along the water are extremely expensive. I really didn’t want to pay a fortune for a room when we’d be spending the majority of our time outside. I spent a lot of time researching different options and finally chose a smaller hotel a block from the ocean. Our accommodations didn’t include a swimming pool, fitness room, on-site restaurant or any luxuries. We got a couple of beds, a couch that pulled out into another bed, a television and an air conditioner. The beds were lumpy, the sheets were scratchy and there wasn’t much water pressure in the shower. We were just happy that the ancient air conditioner managed to keep the room nice and cool. The outer cabinet was dented and rusted, and the unit was missing some of the control knobs. It was only able to run at either maximum capacity, and it dripped water on the carpet. The air conditioner made a tremendous amount of noise and the air smelled a little musty. Since my whole family ended up badly sunburned on the very first day, we spent quite a bit of time inside the room. We were very thankful that we had air conditioning.
