Seal the drafts and save on HVAC heating

While I was at it, I replaced the weather stripping throughout the house and even added some insulation

I honestly thought something was wrong with the HVAC equipment. Since I had never had a gas furnace heating my home before, I wasn’t sure that it was working right. Our first winter in this house was cold no matter how much the gas furnace was running. And part of the house sale was contingent on getting a new furnace. I was afraid that perhaps the previous owner and cut costs and gotten a gas furnace that wasn’t sized properly. So I called the HVAC company and they sent out an HVAC technician. This HVAC professional went over the gas furnace with a fine toothed comb and found it to be the right size and working just fine. This further perplexed me so the HVAC technician and I walked around the house and he took temperature reading. The HVAC professional told me it wasn’t the HVAC equipment but the house that was letting me down. He said that I needed to find the places in my home that were letting the cold air in and the HVAC heating out. The guy told me to get a temperature gun and start around the windows on the exterior of the house, then move elsewhere. I did just that and found two windows that were installed improperly and weren’t insulated. Then I found a few other spots on the exterior that needed to be sealed as well. While I was at it, I replaced the weather stripping throughout the house and even added some insulation. Man, has this change made a difference in our heating comfort. And saved a ton of money on utility costs.
