The chalet was a fixer-upper, starting with the a/c

The heating system consists of a central fireplace, along with a small wood burning stove in the kitchen

The wonderful thing about being retired is finally having free time for personal projects. I took an early retirement, because I wanted to be able to care about my golden years and not just rest in a retirement lake beach house or assisted living facility. My lovely husbandy Helen and I found a quaint, rustic log chalet just outside of town. It was far from perfect, however the location was perfect. The chalet overlooks a small lake, so that both of us can watch the sunrise over the water every morning. Both of us decided to fix it up ourselves, starting with the cooling system. Actually the cooling system didn’t need to be fixed, because the chalet didn’t have 1 at all! When the chalet was first built, people in this section didn’t have air conditioners. In fact, electricity wasn’t added to the chalet until many years later. The heating system consists of a central fireplace, along with a small wood burning stove in the kitchen. This means the chalet has no HVAC duct, and it is impossible for us to get a central HVAC system. The easyst course of action was to buy a small electric air conditioner that both of us could plug into the wall. This is the cooling equivalent of a space heater, and although it isn’t very powerful, this chalet isn’t very big… Helen needs the a/c more than I do, so I let his option out which 1 both of us would buy… Now that the heating and cooling systems are taken care of, both of us can rest back, relax, and care about our golden years.

Heating oil is so lavish, I need to find a way to cut costs

In this part of the state everyone has to buy their heating oil from the same company.

I think it sounds love a government-mandates monopoly – that’s because it is! I cannot fathom how this can be legal, however it’s the law so I have to comply.

The Wintertide season in this section is regularly very intense, replete with ice storms, heavy snowfall, and frozen pipes! Before the cold weather hits, people have to purchase a whole season’s worth of heating oil. It’s not allowed to just buy a little heating oil, you have to buy enough to last for more than two weeks. They say that’s because of the snow storms and power outages. With this kind of furnace, using this kind of heating oil, a lake beach house doesn’t need electricity to stay safe and warm. My lake beach house does have a brick fireplace in the front room, which is something I need to take fortune of more often. The only problem with a brick fireplace is that I have to either buy or cut the wood to fill it, but a fireplace burns through wood much more quickly than you would expect… Firewood is lavish to buy, because it takes so much effort to cut and bundle! Right now I still don’t have many options, despite the fact that I am using as little heating oil as possible. A neighbor of mine has a rest of trees on his property and offered to let me cut my own wood for my fireplace. This Wintertide is going to take restraint and difficult labor, despite the fact that I will make it work.

It took a while to save up for a geothermal heat pump

My older brother Sven has a geothermal heat pump on his property, and he swears by it; Sven and I are not big fans of modern mankind, and how everyone was monitored through their banks and credit cards.

Sven was so stoked with his modern set-up because it allowed him to go off the grid entirely, and with this piece of equipment he could generate and store his own energy, with no need for help from the utility company, but i am very jealous of Sven; The only reason I don’t also own a geothermal heat pump is because they are so damn lavish! I don’t have a credit card, and refuse to go into debt with a bank, so I am slowly saving up enough money to buy a geothermal heat pump for my property. This has led me to another potential problem, which is finding an HVAC company that will really accept payment in money, however most major corporations care about to use cards or checks even for small purchases. I have l gained that some of these HVAC companys are simply unwilling to accept fifteen thoUnited Statesnd dollars in money. I was told that it would be “suspicious,” which is crazy to me! Can you imagine an HVAC company who would care about taking a check over getting a fat wad of money? That is a problem for another morning, because I still don’t have enough money saved up for my geothermal heat pump quite yet… Once I do, I will experience tploy energy independence, and the geothermal heat pump will allow me to disengage from the main power grid.

The wind was blowing the fire out in the fireplace.

The wind had ripped the chimney cap off, plus it was laying in the yard

Living on the mountain; the two of us get a lot of strong winds. Occasionally it sounds like all the trees are splitting, however it is just the wind blowing through them. I like when there are downdrafts, but you can hear the apartment moving as the wind tries to lift it off the foundation. The downdrafts can also create mini tornadoes that twist the trees like a corkscrew, but last week, I was laying in the family room plus I could odor smoke in the air. I was sure I had closed the draft to let the smoke go up the chimney, however maybe I was wrong. I walked into the residing room plus saw the wind was blowing hard enough that it was almost putting the fire out. The wind was coming down the chimney plus whipping at the flames in the fireplace. It mesmerized me at first, but I knew it could be dangerous. I put the fire mesh in front of the fireplace, so the fire could not come out of the fireplace, plus after that the two of us called our partner. I asked him what I should do to keep the fireplace from going out, or the flames from leaping out of the hearth, he told me he was on his way home plus he would see what had happened! By the time he had arrived home, I already knew was happening. The wind had ripped the chimney cap off, plus it was laying in the yard. Every one of us needed to put the chimney cap back on, unless it was broken. I wondered if the landing could have broken the chimney cap, but I had more worries about the wind putting out our fireplace.

This winter we’ve seen lower heating bills

We have paid less in heating which was quite a surprise.

We live in the north, and are accustomed to specific things when it’s winter. Our aunt always laughs when we post videos shoveling snow or dealing with ice. However, we don’t mind the cold weather since winter is also our busiests season. We are near a ski zone that receives hundreds of visitors from across the world. The overflow of guests means they need good accommodation. For those who prefer not to stay at the lodges, we have 5 log cabins on our properties that we rent to them. These cabins have been our bread and butter for a decade now and we are so happy we made the move to invest in them. Each cabin is self-contained with one or two bedrooms. These are fully furnished, but guests do self-catering, and can use them as they please. Well, running the business has been a good experience, but there are also some issues we face. One of the biggest issues we’ve recently been facing is high energy bills. The price of energy is constantly increasing across the country, and we feel this as we manage the 5 cabins. Each cabin has a heating system that’s always running when there are guests around. Thankfully, this year hasn’t been too bad. We have paid less in heating which was quite a surprise. But, this is mainly because it’s been an unusually warm winter. This poses an issue because we rely on snow each winter to run our business. What will happen if the weather gets warmer and there’s less snow falling in the area? Will the skiing business, and our rental cabins lose business, or will guests still want to come and tour the area? Only time will tell.

It’s been getting warmer despite it being May

Did anyone else notice how weird this past winter was or was it just me? I was watching the news the other day and saw some interesting information.

There are parts of Europe that were so warm this past winter that they are already noticing signs of spring.

It’s felt so warm this past winter and we got little snow. I barely had to use the tractor mower to clear the driveway. It was only a few days during Christmas that we had a few inches of snow. But other than that, it’s been warmer and there’s not been any severe winter storms. Now, that seems like a good thing given how much of a hustle winter can be, but you also have to consider how important snow is. The springs in our area that supply us with water rely on the snow to keep flowing all year. Now, with little to no snow in many areas, I’m a bit worried about the future. One thing that wasn’t so bad this winter was the low heating bill. I didn’t have to worry about paying huge heating bills given how costly energy is at the moment. Sometimes I’d just light the fire on the wood stove and keep the house warm. There were several times I’d use the gas furnace to keep me warm in my home, but didn’t need to turn up the temperature. Paying lower heating bills seems like a miracle because it’s not been the case during past winters. But, I still worry about the warm winter we had and how fast spring is coming.

I married an Heating plus Air Conditioning specialist one time already

I married an Heating plus Air Conditioning specialist once already, plus that’s not a mistake I will make again.

  • Back when I was younger, I used to easily want to get married.

I guess I was just easily at the point in my life where I wanted to have something extreme plus stable plus I did not easily care who I got married to! Yes, I was young plus dumb plus I didn’t think what I was doing… Since then, though, I have gotten a lot smarter plus I think that great marriages don’t just happen magically just because you want them to. Back then, I ended up dating plus marrying the first guy who was legitimately interested plus that turned out to be my Heating plus Air Conditioning specialist. I remember it like it was yeahterday because my outdated heating system wasn’t working respectfully plus I had called to make an appointment with the local Heating plus Air Conditioning corporation. I was getting ready to go out for the evening plus I looked easily cute, if I do say so myself, however when the Heating plus Air Conditioning specialist got there, I observed that he was checking myself and others out as soon as he parked the Heating plus Air Conditioning truck… And so, of course, I started flirting with him. So then before I knew what was happening, the people I was with and I were dating! Every one of us ended up dating for about a year, plus after that I ended up getting married. That did not go well, however every one of us broke up after being married for about a year, plus after that I had to find a completely current Heating plus Air Conditioning supplier too. I cannot bear to be around him anymore. I just don’t proposeddating your Heating plus Air Conditioning specialist. It is easily just a exhausting idea.

I appreciate going to sleep to the sound of the furnace

During the winter, I appreciate going to sleep to the sound of the furnace, and for some reason, the furnace in our home is absolutely loud all the time; It has been that way ever since I moved here.

I moved into this home about 3 years ago, and so I have been here for 3 winters, the furnace works absolutely well and it heats the home absolutely well. I cannot absolutely complain about it too much, because all of us live in a unquestionably freezing climate. The weather starts cooling down around here in September, and then it stays absolutely freezing until unquestionably around mid March most of the time. In other words, you have to have a absolutely enjoyable furnace if you want to live here in this section of the country. I appreciate it here and all of our friends and family are here. I am not planning to leave here any time soon, so I am glad that I have a absolutely good furnace, then however, recently I have noticed that our furnace is just getting louder and louder. I have not absolutely tried to repair it or check it out that much because the temperature in the home is consistently fine. I have not noticed a change in the temperature on our temperature control, either, then but there is entirely something wrong with our furnace. It must be the fan inside of the furnace because whenever the heating method is running, it sounds love a jet engine is taking off inside of the air duct! I only hear it when the furnace is turned on and running, though.
