My ex-husband left me no choice.

Toward the end of my marriage, my husband and I were fighting so badly that our neighbor had to call the police.

  • She said she was afraid one of us was going to get violent by the sound of our angry words.

I was hoping we could get one of those quickie divorces that only cost a couple hundred dollars. My ex-husband was playing hardball and refusing to give me a divorce. He said that if I wanted the divorce; I was going to need to hire a lawyer and pay for it. He was thinking he could use the same divorce lawyer I had, but he was wrong. I hired a divorce lawyer that was recommended to me by a friend. She told me her husband tried to pull the same stunt. He didn’t want to pay for a lawyer either. When I talked to the lawyer, he said he wouldn’t represent both the husband and the wife, unless they had no assets and no kids. We owned a house and had a son. He wanted nothing but visitation for our son, but he wanted the house. The divorce lawyer told me that since I was keeping full custody of our son, it entitled me to the house. I told him I was fine with selling the house and I could use my half of the money and buy a small home of my own. The divorce lawyer thought this was a good idea. My ex-husband gave me no choice but to force him to sell the house and play hardball.
